Millennials think more about their food than any other generation in history. This attention ranges from where it was grown, what has been added to it, how it is presented, and how a consumer feels while eating it.
This culinary and grocer trend is primarily concentrated in high density and emerging urban markets and tangibly affects which tenants thrive and fail in retail centers.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, restaurant industry sales surpassed grocer sales for the first time in history in April 2015.
Of the top 150 deals completed in GLA/OC for 2015, grocery tenants made up the majority of the activity with a variety of concepts.
